Soccer

Jonathan thinks soccer is the best thing in the world. I don't think it has anything to do with the actual game, seeing how he's too young to play in the 4-H club with his siblings. I don't think it has anything to do with watching them play, as he did very little of that.

I think it has everything to do with being thrown inconceivably high into the air and fallingfallingfalling back down into his father's arms.

He's not the only soccer fan.

Gideon (19 mos.)
Salem (19 mos.)
Thursday was the first soccer practice for our oldest five. Ethan and I were making bets as to how many kids we would have crying on the field, how many would be wiggling to go potty, and which one would all-out quit first.

But they proved us both wrong. Everyone practiced hard for the full two hours and filled our van with loud stories about what happened on the way home. Lily, Abe, Mimi, and Edee are all on one team (the 8 and under team), and Ben is on the other team (the 9 and older team).

It's a perfect fit for us. They meet at a park with a playground and covered shelter close to the soccer fields. It's a new 4-H club ("Health and Fitness") comprised mainly (entirely?) of homeschoolers. The price is cheap, the practices/scrimmages are Thursday afternoons from 4:00-6:00, and it ends at the end of October. There are no weekend games or commitments.

Perfect.

Oh. And did I mention the scenery?

Ben is the one in the red shirt (snort, snort). The coach realized half the players were wearing red. Half were wearing blue. The other two players (brown and black) became goalies. Who needs uniforms?

The scenery was a little different for the younger set.

Their scenery was much more ... munchkin-y. Don't you think?
